Excerpts
from - Box
of Sixty-Four
"It
took me fifteen years
to make my first record.
It took about three to
make this one. The earth
is, arguably, four and
a half billion years old.
Rock ‘n Roll is,
also arguably, about sixty.
So I figure I’m
picking up speed. The
release of Box of Sixty-Four
is a celebration, and
a sigh of relief. I got
the same feeling walking
out of church on Sundays
when I was a kid…
never sure if the joy
I was experiencing came
from any kind of spiritual
awakening, or the fact
that we would soon be
pulling into Dunkin Donuts
to stuff our heads full
of bavarian creme. Making
music is a lot like eating
a donut. It’s a
lot of fun, better when
it’s fresh, easy
to overindulge and hard
to quit once you start.
This record came in fits,
staggered a few times,
sort of crawled back to
life and quietly walked
over the finish line.
I had to be reminded that
life is not just black
and white. Or ones and
zeroes. Or Lennon &
McCartney. It’s
right now. And forever.
And Jagger & Richards.
So bang on the table.
Eat dessert first. Go
climb a tree. Put on some
music… okay, put
on this record…
and let a little color
in."
